A bit about Alkmaar

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things” – Henry Miller

The Fallon Alkmaar – our home for the next four days.
Pretty – right?
But on further investigation,
we discovered that it was a prison until 2012 !!!

We never would have guessed that!

I don’t suppose this is the way the mess hall looked or how the prisoners ate.

    1. No, they’re quite large and nice. I think they took some time renovating it. Only been a hotel for the last 2 years. Actually as far as we can figure out a lot of the rooms are the size of 2 cells. So, probably knocked out quite a few walls!

    1. Beautiful! We’re in a kind of wing but where the cells were we think they took 2 cells and turned them into one room. (The doors are numbered every other one) Make sense? Just got back from a long,
tough bike ride. Hitting the showers😅

  1. Well now that you mention it, there is definitely an Alcatraz vibe in some of those shots of the upper levels. Yes, we need a shot of the room please!

  2. Barbara So glad you two are on the move. It sounds like you have been craving the travel mode. I was fascinated by your lodging. What a great way to rehabilitate a prison. Safe travels! Mary
