Have you been waiting for these?

Visited Kinderdijk today – where we saw 19 preserved windmills built in the 17th & 18th centuries.
It’s been on our bucket list.
It did not disappoint.
Great fun to ride the path and look at them.
When people join together to solve a problem they can come up with some amazing ideas!
Really fascinating to learn how the Dutch figured out how to get water out of their fields and back into the canals to prevent flooding. The U.S. really should be talking to the Netherlands now before we start having those same issues.
This one built in 1740 – lovely!

    1. We did talk to a man who’d lived there all his life and he wears wooden shoes all the time. You should have seen him climb the sail to demonstrate how the cloth works – all while wearing wooden shoes. Pretty amazing!

      1. It was pretty special to arrive there via bicycle. We came down the canal from the opposite direction and saw men fishing. The canal was calm and the windmills began to reveal themselves. We biked along, alone for quite awhile, taking pictures as we went. When it started to get crowded we just turned around and biked the other direction. We did that a few times then toured the windmills etc. Great memory. xo
